Who should take Qualia Resilience?

Qualia Resilience was formulated for adults 18 years old and over. It is intended for people who would like to experience enhanced resilience, mental toughness, calmness, and more capacity to cope with and recover from stressful events and circumstances.*

Should I take Qualia Resilience with food?

Qualia Resilience can be taken with or without food. When we tested Qualia Resilience prior to launch, most participants chose to take it with food, but others took it without food. So, if taking supplements on an empty stomach is something that you tolerate well and find more convenient, feel free to take Qualia Resilience without food.

The recommended dose for Qualia Resilience is 2 capsules a day. We also recommend following a dosing approach of taking Qualia Resilience for 5 days a week, with 2 days each week when it is not taken.*

Is it okay if I have my child or teenager take Qualia Resilience?

While we have no reason to suspect any of the ingredients in Qualia Resilience would be problematic for children and teenagers, we do not recommend giving it to them for several reasons. The first reason is that our safety and tolerability testing of this formula was done in adults. The second reason is that the recommended dose is based on studies of ingredients of adults. The third reason is that several of the extracts in the formula have only been studied in adults: when this third reason is the case, our default position is to recommend the product only be used by adults.

Yes. We consider Qualia Resilience to be compatible with intermittent fasting. It does not contain any significant amount of the caloric units of energy found within food (carbohydrates, protein, and fat) that may disrupt a fasting period.

Can I take Qualia Resilience in addition to Qualia Nootropic Energy Shot?

How can I ensure I get the most out of Qualia Resilience?

Qualia Resilience is intended to be a great complement to other Qualia products for people who want more stress and mood support. The combination of Qualia Resilience at the start of the day, and Qualia Night at dinner can provide all-day and evening support for persons who are under a great deal of stress, and desire even more support for stress and calmer mood. 

Qualia Resilience combined with Qualia Mind or Focus would be the preferred option for persons wanting nootropic enhancement related to focus, memory, drive, with added support for stress and executive functions. 

Behaviors and strategies that help with stress would also be expected to help you get the most from Qualia Resilience. We recommend focusing on: (1) Consistently getting enough quality sleep—lack of sleep is a source of stress and can leave us less able to cope well with stress; (2) Regularly exercising in ways that create fitness—being sedentary and excessive exercise can both add to stress load; and (3) Practicing meditation or breathing techniques to calm the mind and center the body. 

And, we believe Qualia Resilience should be taken for a period of at least 4 weeks, and ideally 8 weeks to get the full benefits of the product.*

Do I keep Qualia Resilience at room temperature or put it in the refrigerator?

We recommend storing Qualia Resilience in a cool dry place, but it does not need to be refrigerated.

Yes. It’s perfectly fine to only take 1 capsule rather than the recommended 2 capsules. But the trade-offs of taking a lower dose are: (1) you would be getting less stress support, and (2) you’d be taking half the dose used in human studies for several of the ingredients (e.g., Noogandha®, Extramel®).*

How soon will I notice some benefits from Qualia Resilience?

Several ingredients in Qualia Resilience—NooGandha® Liposomal Ashwagandha, L-theanine, as examples—support aspects of a healthy stress response and cognition the day they are taken. So, some benefits for feeling calmer or focused may be felt later the same day after taking a dose. But most of the benefits for stress and cognitive support would be expected to take longer to be noticed. In studies of Ashwagandha, as an example, stress and cognitive support have gradually become more noticeable over time, with greater benefits reported at 8 weeks compared to 4 weeks, and at 4 weeks compared to 2 weeks. Because of this, during our testing of Qualia Resilience, we assessed areas like mental toughness, burnout, resilience, mood, and stress after 4 weeks.☨ And, we believe Qualia Resilience should be taken for a period of at least 4 weeks, and ideally 8 weeks to notice the full benefits of the product.*

How does Qualia Resilience work?

Qualia Resilience works by supplying adaptogens, amino acids, minerals, and vitamins that support the brain and stress response system. Ingredients were selected to support adaptation to stress, a healthy cortisol response, adrenal function (and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis), antioxidant defenses, vagus nerve and parasympathetic nervous system, and other molecules and pathways involved with helping us be more resilient to stress.*

What should I expect when I take Qualia Resilience?

Qualia Resilience was developed to support: (1) resilience; (2) mental toughness; (3) calmness; (4) support for stress; (5) vitality (i.e., overcoming stress-related fatigue); and (6) cognitive performance while under stress. In our pre-launch testing, almost every participant experienced support in one or more of these areas while taking Qualia Resilience. What time of day Is best to take Qualia Resilience?

We recommend taking Qualia Resilience before whatever part of your day would be the most stressful (for many people this will mean taking Qualia Resilience before their workday, school, etc.), since it is intended to provide support for coping with stress and challenges during the busiest parts of our daily life.*

How many calories does Qualia Resilience have?

The 8 vitamins, 2 amino acids, minerals, and high purity extracts used in Qualia Resilience do not provide any significant amount of the caloric units of energy found within food (i.e., carbohydrates, protein, and fat). 

Why do you recommend cycling Qualia Resilience for 5 days on, followed by 2 days off?

We recommend having scheduled “rest” days for dietary supplement products that contain adaptogens—Qualia Resilience contains 4 adaptogen extracts. Adaptogens are thought to support a healthy stress response system, at least in part by being a challenge of sorts, inducing a mild stress (being stress-mimetic). 

The healthy adaptive response to this mild stress has been shown to leave the stress system “fitter” when it comes to dealing with other forms of stress. This would be akin to how exercise challenges muscles, which respond by getting fitter. But, for muscles to perform at their best, to adapt well to exercise, they need to be both challenged and have an opportunity to recover from the challenge. This is why most experts recommend taking 2-3 days each week to rest and recover from a weight training routine, as an example. 

We believe the most sensible approach to using adaptogen extracts to encourage a fitter stress response system is similar; challenge with adaptogens for 5 days each week, and then allow for 2 days to rest and recover. By doing something intermittently, instead of every day, it may help counter the tendency for habituation, which can be a useful way to approach things you plan on doing or taking for long periods of time.*

The intermittent fasting window I follow means that the first food I eat isn’t till later in the day. When should I take Qualia Resilience?

It’s fine to wait to take Qualia Resilience until whatever time of day you eat your first food. If taking supplements without food agrees with you, it would also be fine to take Qualia Resilience early in the day during your intermittent fasting window.

How should I get started with Qualia Resilience?

There are no special instructions for getting started with Qualia Resilience. The recommended dose of 2 capsules can be taken all at once, divided into separate times during the day or early evening, and be taken with or without food.

Is the dose of Qualia Resilience dependent on body weight?

No, the recommended dose is not dependent on body weight. Our recommended 2 capsules a day dose for Qualia Resilience provides the same doses used in human studies for some of the ingredients (e.g., Noogandha®, Extramel®). In studies of those (and other) ingredients, the dose was not adjusted by body weight (i..e., everyone received the same dose no matter what they weighed). While it is perfectly fine to adjust the dose lower for any reason, including body weight, it does mean you’ll be taking less than the studied dose and receiving less stress support.*

Is Qualia a scam or snake oil?

The supplement industry is indeed the “Wild West” and there are a lot of snake oil salesmen out there with false claims and no ethical standards. Part of what inspired the creation of Neurohacker Collective was in response to this exact problem.

Qualia is not a scam. We have a non-proprietary formulation - we publish exactly what’s in our product, with the exact amounts. We publish links to the research that support their safety and efficacy, which includes Phase II & III university and clinical trials, strong quantified self research data, and over 40+ years international research on nootropic stack formulation. We specifically designed our product with a set of ethical guidelines, so that we would avoid things like dependence or down regulation. Why does Qualia cost so much?

Most ingredients have many different forms of varying quality and potency. In every case, we chose the absolute highest grade form of each ingredient for Qualia.  

Additionally, the quantity of ingredients in Qualia vastly exceeds what is typical for nootropic products. Our raw ingredients cost is actually higher than the market cost of many of our competitors. We encourage you to research the ingredients in our product, the forms of those ingredients, the dosages, and then compare that information with other nootropics on the market. We think you will then agree that Qualia is at the top end in price because it is at the top end in quality.



How many calories does Qualia Mind have?

Calories are not a standard part of labeling for dietary supplements, because, unlike foods, or macronutrients (e.g., fats, carbohydrates, proteins), vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and herbs don’t have clearly defined calorie counts. While we don't have exact calorie data on any of our formulations, we’d estimate that a seven capsule dose of Qualia Mind may have about 20-24 calories.

When we formulated the Qualia Nootropic Energy we assumed regular Qualia Mind users would want to occasionally have a Qualia Nootropic Energy. So we designed them to be able to be used together on the days when you want an extra boost. However, when it comes to daily use we think of these products as being more in the either/or category. In other words, for daily use we’d generally recommend either Qualia Nootropic Energy or Qualia Mind, but not both be used. 

Part of the reason we think of them in this way is that each of these products was formulated to stand on its own as a nootropic. Another part of the reason is that each contains caffeine. Taking a full dose of Qualia Mind with Qualia Nootropic Energy Shot would deliver 190 mg of caffeine, which is within the 50-200 mg range where caffeine performs. 

And the last part of the reason is that Qualia Nootropic Energy is formulated to provide some of the same cognitive support as what’s found in Qualia Mind (e.g., Celastrus paniculatus seed extract, L-theanine, alpha-GPC, n-acetyl-l-tyrosine, niacinamide).*

How should I get started with Qualia Mind?

While there are no special instructions for getting started, we’ve found a good way to start is to take your dose of Qualia Mind about 1-2 hour after waking with a large glass of water.

Can Mind help you feel like a better version of yourself?

When Neurohacker Collective designed Qualia Mind, our goal was to support a range of what we think of as positive capacities. These are cognitive and emotional qualities that help us become better versions of ourselves in our professional and personal lives. A nootropic compound or formula can rob Peter to pay Paul, so to speak, boosting focus, as an example, but at the expense of patience. We get more done, but we also feel less calm or more irritable. 

When our team designed Qualia Mind, one of our goals was supporting calm energy and stress resilience. The experiences of calm energy feels very different than the edginess or irritability that can accompany energy drinks. It’s the attention, focus and drive to get things done, but in a more relaxed way. Resilience is the capacity to tolerate stress much better. When stress resilience goes up, the capacity to tap into positive cognitive and emotional qualities also goes up, while the tendency to get mired in more negative responses goes down. This goal was why we included ingredients that support calm energy and stress resilience. 

Bacopa monnieri is an example. It’s a nootropic Ayurvedic herb, supporting aspects of brain performance. But it does so in a way that also supports a healthier stress response.

Rhodiola rosea is an adaptogenic herb, which is the category of herbs that support adaptation to stress. Mental fatigue is one of the symptoms of higher stress: Rhodiola can help counter it. By helping us adapt to stress, some of the feelings that often accompany stress, such as anger and irritability can also be countered with Rhodiola.

When we look at ingredients, we are always thinking about whether they might be additive with other ingredients. It’s not only about single nutrients; it’s how nutrients interact together that is the key.

Ginkgo biloba is another nootropic herb. It tends to be mostly thought of as being supportive of longer term memory. When combined with Rhodiola, the combination supports better brain performance than either on its own, especially with working memory, sustained focus, and reaction times.

L-Theanine is found in green tea. It supports mental performance while also promoting less tension. It’s another example of how one ingredient can add to another. 

Caffeine has been one of the most studied compounds for brain performance. Its strengths, at least when taken in low-to-moderate amounts, are alertness, vigilance, attention, and reaction time. When caffeine is combined with L-theanine, the combination is better for focusing with speed and accuracy.

 

Instructions for Qualia Mind

Mind Instructions:

Qualia Mind’s effects are dose-dependent, varying with chemistry, body weight, general sensitivity and desired level of effect.  The standard dose for most people is 7 capsules. Take Qualia Mind first thing in the morning, preferably on an empty stomach. 

If stomach upset occurs, take with breakfast instead. Optimal dosage can vary based on body weight and sensitivity. Don't take more than 10 capsules at once or more than 12 in a day. 

Everyone's chemistry is unique, of course, and some users find that increasing or decreasing the standard dosage is key to optimizing the effects for their individual needs. If the standard dosage does not match your needs, we encourage experimenting and adjusting your dosage in order to find your optimal intake. 

Cycling Your Use:

Qualia Mind is designed to be taken 5 days on and 2 days off each week.  This maximizes the benefits while preventing desensitization. It does not matter if the “off-cycle” days are consecutive or apart, so long as they happen each week.

Qualia Mind was designed to work for those getting adequate sleep, in generally good health, and practicing good self-care. How does Qualia Mind work?

Are the ingredients in Mind organic?

As a result of the types of ingredients necessary in making nootropics such as Qualia Mind, to the best of our knowledge there are no nootropic stacks that are fully organic. 

We deeply care about the quality and safety of Qualia. Our ingredients are tested for purity, heavy metals, and microbial contamination. We also test the finished product to further ensure quality during manufacturing.

Mind is gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO. It has no artificial colors, flavors, or sweeteners, and is also made with HPMC vegetarian capsules. Qualia Mind is not kosher.

Can I take Qualia Mind in addition to my existing supplement regimen?

There are tens of thousands of different dietary supplements sold in the USA, with more added each year, so it is not possible for us to make any general recommendations about adding Qualia Mind to an existing supplement regimen.

Should I take Qualia Mind with food?

Qualia Mind can be taken with or without food. However, some people prefer to take nootropic-containing products, such as Qualia Mind, away from food, because they feel like they notice the subjective response faster when it’s not combined with food.

Can I take Qualia Mind in addition to Qualia Life?

Yes. Qualia Mind was designed to complement Qualia Life.

Can I take Qualia Mind in addition to Qualia Focus?

Research does not suggest any safety concern in taking Qualia Mind and Qualia Focus together, though we think of them as being “either/or” rather than “both together” products for most people. Part of the reason we think of them in this way is that each of these products was formulated to stand on its own as a nootropic. 

Another part of the reason is that each contains caffeine. And, the last part of the reason is that they have an overlap in several other ingredients (e.g., Celastrus, Ginkgo, L-theanine, some B-vitamins). 

Taking a full dose of Qualia Mind with Qualia Focus, as an example, would deliver 190 mg of caffeine, which is within the 50-200 mg range where caffeine performs exceptionally well as a nootropic. For people who are not sensitive to this amount of caffeine, we don’t believe that there is any reason why Qualia Mind and Qualia Focus can’t be used together.*

Is it okay to split the dose of Qualia Mind between different meals?

Yes. If you want to take several capsules of Qualia Mind with breakfast and several more with lunch that would be fine. But, because Qualia Mind contains caffeine, we don’t recommend taking it with dinner.

What is the difference between Qualia Mind and Qualia Focus?

Qualia Mind & Qualia Focus are both fast-acting, research-backed nootropics designed to support a range of important cognitive skills, including alertness, motivation, attention (e.g., focus, concentration), and memory.* We believe that Qualia Focus delivers exceptional value and stands on its own as a great nootropic; however, it does not offer the premium nootropic experience of Qualia Mind. 

While Qualia Mind and Qualia Focus are designed to support some of the same cognitive areas, Qualia Mind was formulated to also support a wide range of additional cognitive skills, such as executive functions, emotional resilience, and skills within an area called social cognition. We believe Qualia Mind can do this because it has (1) a larger number of ingredients—Qualia Mind has 28 ingredients, while Qualia Focus has 14, (2) the recommended number of capsules to take is far more (7 for Qualia Mind and only 2 for Qualia Focus), and (3) Qualia Mind’s higher price allowed us to include a combination of quite a few high cost ingredients that won’t be found together in nootropic doses in products at the Qualia Focus price point (such as DHA, PQQ, Cognizin® Citicoline, Alpha-GPC, Phosphatidylserine, Uridine, and Rhodiola rosea).*

Because of the combination of capsule count and price, while both products have similar cores—the powerful nootropic pairing of theanine and caffeine, Celastrus paniculatus seed extract (the “intellect tree”), nootropic and adaptogen herbs for memory and stress support, and B-vitamins—there’s quite a bit of difference between the two products. This starts with what we use to supply caffeine, which is arguably the favorite ingredient among neurohackers for supporting alertness, energy, processing speed, reaction times, and motivation. Qualia Focus uses anhydrous caffeine (which is the most studied and commonly used type of caffeine among neurohackers and athletes), while Qualia Mind uses a more premium Organic Coffeeberry® Whole Coffee Fruit Extract as a source of caffeine, because it also provides brain-supportive antioxidants and polyphenols. Another difference is that, while you’ll see most of the same B vitamins in both products, Qualia Mind can supply higher amounts of them because of the extra capsules—doses of B vitamins that Neurohacker Collective has studied effects at “nootropic doses”—while Qualia Focus supplies B vitamin doses that are closer to the recommended daily intake.*

Both Qualia Mind and Focus include herbs and nootropics designed to support functions like acetylcholine neurotransmission, neuroplasticity, and synaptogenesis, which are important for promoting cognitive skills such as focus, learning, and memory. But Qualia Mind offers far more support in these areas. It has the two nootropic forms of choline (e.g., Cognizin® Citicoline and Alpha-Glycerylphosphorylcholine [alpha-GPC]), the Ayurvedic herb Bacopa monnieri, and Huperzia serrata Leaf Extract to offer more support for acetylcholine neurotransmission. Is it okay if I have my child or teenager take Qualia Mind?

We do not recommend giving Qualia Mind to children or teenagers, because (1) some of the ingredients have only been studied in adults, and (2) the recommended dose contains 90 mg of caffeine, which when added to the amount of caffeine many teens consume in sodas, coffee drinks, energy drinks, etc., would place them above the amount recommended by doctors (The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests limiting caffeine intake to 100 mg in adolescents ages 12 to 18 years old and has not designated a safe threshold for caffeine in children 11 years old and younger).*

How much caffeine is in Qualia Mind?

A seven capsule serving size of Qualia Mind contains 90 mg of caffeine (there’s about 13 mg of caffeine per capsule) from an organic Coffeeberry® whole coffee fruit extract. This 90 mg amount of caffeine is found in about an 8 ounce cup of coffee. We chose this amount of caffeine because caffeine’s nootropic (i.e., brain performance) range is generally from 50-200mg, while 100-600mg of caffeine are used for ergogenic (i.e., exercise/sports) purposes. So the amount of caffeine in Qualia Mind is in the lower part of the range most commonly used for mental and physical performance support purposes.*

How long does the mental energy boost from Qualia Mind last?

Qualia Mind was formulated to support hours of nootropic benefits. In our pre-launch testing, about seven out of ten participants felt the sustained nootropic benefits for at least 4 to 8 hours or more after taking Qualia Mind. Almost all participants felt nootropic benefits for at least several hours.☨*

Is the dose of Qualia Mind dependent on body weight?

Qualia Mind contains 90 mg of caffeine in the recommended 7 capsule serving size. Caffeine, especially when used prior to exercise, is very commonly dosed based on body weight in clinical studies. However, because the amount of caffeine contained in a 7-capsule dose would be in the range of what’s been used in studies even in persons with low body weights, we would not consider body weight to be particularly important for dosing Qualia Mind. That said, it’s fine to choose to take fewer capsules of Qualia Mind for any reason, including if a person weighs less.*

Are there supplements I should avoid while taking Qualia Mind?

The recommended dose of Qualia Mind contains 90 mg of caffeine. The nootropic range for caffeine for most people is in the range of 50-200 mg. To get the best overall nootropic experience from Qualia Mind, we recommend avoiding other products that contain caffeine in an amount that would, when combined with Qualia Mind, supply more than 200 mg of caffeine.

Is it okay to drink alcohol with Qualia Mind?

The Dietary Guidelines for Americans cautions against mixing alcohol with caffeine. The reason for the caution is that when alcohol is mixed with caffeine, the caffeine can mask the effects of alcohol, making drinkers feel more alert than they would otherwise. The CDC's Alcohol and Caffeine Fact Sheet gives more information on their concerns. Since Qualia Mind contains caffeine, we recommend it not be taken immediately before or at the same time as alcohol is consumed.

Combining Qualia Mind with other Qualia nootropic products may be dependent on a person’s sensitivity to caffeine. 

Qualia Mind, Qualia Focus, and Qualia Nootropic Energy Shot all contain caffeine, and caffeine is not a “more is better” nootropic ingredient. Combining Qualia Mind with either Qualia Focus, or Nootropic Energy Shot would supply an amount of caffeine we’d consider to be at the top end of the nootropic range.

Why do you recommend cycling Qualia Mind for 5 days on, followed by 2 days off?

Learning occurs, and fitness is built, through repetition and recovery. This principle applies to brain learning (it’s called spaced learning). It also applies to creating fitness, where most experts recommend taking 2-3 days each week to rest and recover from exercise. Living organisms are experts at adapting to things. By doing something intermittently, instead of every day, it counters the tendency for adaptation, which is a useful way to approach things you plan on doing or taking for long periods of time. Our general preference is that, if something doesn’t need to be taken daily, it’s a good idea to build in breaks. We feel more strongly about building in weekly days off for dietary supplement products that contain caffeine and/or adaptogens, both of which are found in Qualia Mind. 

Do I keep Qualia Mind at room temperature or put it in the refrigerator?

We recommend storing Qualia Mind in a cool dry place but not a refrigerator. Refrigeration promotes moisture condensation after a bottle has been opened, so is not recommended for storing the bottle—moisture is more of a problem for shelf-life in the ingredients in Qualia Mind than room temperature heat.

Do the ingredients in Qualia cross the blood brain barrier?

Everything Qualia is doing effects the chemistry on the brain side of the blood brain barrier.  

Qualia was designed for effecting whole body chemistry and very specifically the nervous system; both central and peripheral.  All the ingredients were chosen for their specific bioavailability to the pathways they were intended to affect. Whether that is through forms that directly cross the blood brain barrier or those that target the peripheral or central nervous system, the methodology here is to have all ingredients reach their intended targets via the different mechanisms affecting the whole body chemistry.

Why don’t you use nicotinamide ribose or nicotinamide mononucleotide?

Nicotinamide riboside and nicotinamide mononucleotide are newer (and very expensive) dietary ingredients used to boost NAD+. Boosting NAD+ is not unique to these newer ingredients. It’s the defining characteristic that makes a compound a vitamin B3. The niacin equivalents—niacin (nicotinic acid; NA) and niacinamide (NAM)—boost NAD+. L-tryptophan is also a precursor for NAD+. We included both NA and NAM, as well as L-tryptophan, because these ingredients can be used to make NAD+ and this approach supports three different ways of making it. Redundancy is a core value within complex systems science and something we look for when formulating our products.

From our research we also are not convinced that nicotinamide riboside (NR) or nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) offer good value or actually deliver on their intended goals. Studies in the 1990’s found that NAD+ and other molecules in our food are broken down into niacinamide before being absorbed. NAD+ in food, as an example, was first broken down into NMN. The NMN was then further broken down into NR. And the NR was slowly turned into NAM during digestion. A small amount of this NAM was turned into NA by gut microbiota. So it was NAM (and to a much lesser extent NA) that was absorbed. Until information exists showing that the NR and NMN molecules can make it past digestion and the liver intact, we think these are very expensive ways to do something the other niacins do.

What should I do if I notice a side-effect and think it might be because of this product?

One of the interesting things found in studies is that placebos can have positive effects … and unwanted effects. The common side-effects seen from placebos match what are found in studies of dietary supplements and what we saw in our tolerability testing. These are minor complaints like headache, digestive disturbances, nausea, irritability, and fatigue. Most people don’t notice any of these unwanted responses. In the smaller subset of people who do, as a general rule of thumb, these types of complaints fade over time for most of them. They can also sometimes go away if you drink more water when you take the product, take it with a bigger meal, or decrease the dose you are taking.

If one or more of these common symptoms seems particularly strong, or if you notice something other than one of the common side effects mentioned, please stop taking the product and let us know.

Do I need to take the full dose of Qualia Life?

In general, we recommend taking the full dose. The full dose provides the studied amounts of many of the ingredients (this is an important part of being able to make accurate structure/function claims) and is the dose we designed the formulation to deliver and have studied in our testing.

Feel free to adjust the dose as needed, whether this is over time or because of sensitivity to dietary supplements, in general, or to this formulation. Because of biochemical individuality and many other factors, we don’t all respond the same way to the same ingredients or doses. We don’t all have the same objectives or goals in mind. So, it’s perfectly fine to experiment with taking a lower dose that works best for you and your chemistry.

For some, it may be a good idea to begin slowly as you get started with this product. Starting by doing less is done by taking 1-2 capsules a day for the first few days (three days is a good rule of thumb). Then gradually add 1-2 more capsules every few days till you reach the full dose. This gradual approach can be especially important for people who are already taking a lot of other supplements, or tend to be more sensitive to dietary supplements or foods.

The standard dose for most people is 8 capsules. Take Qualia Life first thing in the morning, with food. 

Everyone's chemistry is unique, of course, and some users find that increasing or decreasing the standard dosage is key to optimizing the effects for their individual needs. If the standard dosage does not match your needs, we encourage experimenting and adjusting your dosage in order to find your optimal intake. 

Qualia Life Drink Mix Instructions:

Qualia Life effects are dose-dependent, varying with body weight, general sensitivity and desired level of effect.

How should I get started with Qualia Life?

A good strategy, when starting anything new, is to start slow and gradually working your way up. This takes advantage of the body’s adaptive capacities and minimizes chances of poor response. Exercise is a great example of this. When starting a new exercise routine, the tendency is to want to do a lot right away. But this increases chances of having very sore muscles or getting injured. So, it’s better to start conservatively and slowly do more as your body gets accustomed to the new routine.

This same principle, starting low and adding more gradually, can be applied to taking dietary supplements. When we designed Qualia Life, we did so understanding people would take it with one of the other Qualia nootropic products. Because of this, we made sure that the products, when combined, wouldn’t be giving too much of any individual nutrient. We are not a “more is better” company when it comes to the formulation of our products. It was very important to us to make sure the amounts of every ingredient would stay within a safe range when this product was taken with Qualia.

A subset of persons taking Qualia Mind in our testing of Qualia Life mentioned that the two together was a lot of capsules to take for them. For other people this wasn’t an issue. This is one of the reasons we are also producing Qualia Life in sachets.

While we’ve found that people often respond to Qualia Mind better when it’s taken without food, there’s a lot more flexibility on when you take Qualia Life. The important thing is finding a routine that that works best for you.

Does Qualia Life work for everyone?

How does Qualia Life work?

We’ve written a series of articles discussing how Qualia Life works in detail. But, in general, it works by helping our cells and mitochondria do more work, especially the types of tasks they tend to struggle to get to as we get older. When our cells and mitochondria can do more work, and get to all the important jobs we need them to do, we look, feel and function better.

Does Qualia Life work for everyone?

While it’s often implied that something will work for everybody, this does match the reality of complexity science or human individuality. A better assumption is to think in terms of response groupings. Exercise is a good example.

If we started a big group of people on the same exact exercise program, and followed how they respond over time, we’d find that some people got much more benefits than the overall group. These persons are called super-responders. Many people will have an average response. They’re responders. Some people will have either a less than average or no response (i.e., non-responders). And there’s likely to be a subset of persons who got injured. They were negative responders. This same type of grouping response reliably plays out when we test and iterate during our formulation process.

Response groups tend to follow a bell curve. One of our formulation goals is to shift the bell curve in a way that we end up with a high amount of super-responders (~33%) and an overall amount of super-responders and responders of about 80%. This leaves about 20% as non- and negative responders, with our goal being to have very few of this group being negative responders. Our testing of Qualia Life met this criteria. This product was not equal for everyone. About 1 out of 3 were super-responders. Almost half were responders. And, about 1 out of 5 were non-responders, with very few negative responders.

For someone who’s cells and mitochondria are already working at a high level, we wouldn’t expect them to notice as much as for someone whose cells and mitochondria are not. This is what we observed in our testing. In the subset of participants 35 and older, the percent of super-responders increased to about half, with almost all the rest being responders. So, in general, our testing to date has shown that persons in their mid-30’s and older seem to benefit more consistently and to higher amounts.

Exercise is an excellent example of this. When we start a new exercise program muscles, and other systems like the heart and lungs, adapt to it which allows us to perform better. To optimize our response to exercise, we need to perform it and also allow enough time to recover from it. Because of this, a good trainer or coach wouldn’t have a person do the same exercise every day (i.e., continuous exercise); they’d have them take days off (i.e., intermittent exercise). 

By doing something intermittently, instead of continuously, we typically get more benefits and we continue to get benefits over long periods of time. Intermittent fasting is another example. During the fast, the body gets rid of some dysfunctional parts of cells and mitochondria. After the fast, during refeeding, it builds new better ones. Both the fasting and refeeding play a role. Unless there’s something a person needs to do or take everyday we think it’s a good general strategy to take breaks from it.

What should I expect when taking Qualia Life?

Depending on health, age, and other factors, what you experience will vary. In the biohacker and quantified self communities, you’ll run across the acronym YMMV. This stands for “your mileage may vary.” It means that every person does not respond identically to the same thing. YMMV is seen with diet, exercise, sleep needs, and circadian preferences (i.e., some people are morning people; others are night people). It’s also seen with dietary supplements. Because of this, there’s a growing movement for what are called N-of-1 (or one person) experiments.

Not surprisingly, in our testing of Qualia Life, we saw YMMV in action, when we look at the group as a whole (ranging in age from early 20’s to 70’s). Functional improvements individual people noticed varied. While most people noticed something, they did not all experience the same things.

How soon will I notice something?

Qualia Life wasn’t designed to produce the type of immediate subjective response that our Qualia line of nootropics (Mind, Focus) are known for. Qualia Life is designed to give cells and mitochondria the nutritional support they need to work better. When they work better, we look, feel, and perform better … but this may take time.

Enhancing fundamental processes of cellular energy and mitochondrial performance is a slower process, because it gets to the roots of healthy aging, working from the ground up. In our testing, some people noticed some area of functional performance and/or subjective experience change almost immediately, many started to notice something within one week, but for most people it took a month of use.

It’s important to keep in mind that we don’t always feel a big difference as our cells and mitochondria slowly begin to perform better and produce more energy. Our senses are not as good at detecting slow, gradual enhancements as big, dramatic ones. How much water should I drink with Qualia Life?

We recommend drinking Qualia Life with water and drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day, especially during the first week. One of the ingredients—creatine (as tricreatine malate)—is believed to pull water into cells. Because of this, it’s important to stay hydrated while taking Qualia Life.

The Qualia Life sachets are designed to be mixed with water, but can be used in smoothies, added to juices, or mixed into other drinks, depending on your personal taste and preferences. Similar to the capsules, it’s a good idea to make sure you mix it with at least a full 8 ounces of water or other fluids.

Should I take Qualia Life with or without food?

In general, we recommend taking Qualia Life with food. Some of the ingredients are fat-soluble, so taking them with food, especially if it contains at least a small amount of fat or oil, would be expected to help with absorption. It’s fine to take it a bit before eating the food (or drinking a smoothie), in the middle, or a bit after eating. Digestion doesn’t happen all at once.

We recommend taking Qualia Life in the morning as opposed to dinner because things taken at dinner, in our experience, have a much more individual impact on sleep, while taking them in the morning seems to be more forgiving and they don't disrupt sleep (sleep quality has improved for quite a few people taking Qualia Life in the morning or lunch but we haven't studied this for dinner dosing). Qualia Life doesn't have any caffeine but does have about 6 mg of theobromine from the cocoa extract. Theobromine is usually not experienced as alerting in the same way caffeine is, especially at this low a dose. So, the bottom line is there's no reason we know of to avoid taking Qualia Life with dinner, but if you do, pay attention to your sleep to make sure the timing is working for you.

Qualia Night will work best when you also pay attention to several diet and lifestyle habits. Evening body clock functions perform the best when the body can predict when to schedule major jobs. This predictability is dictated by the timing of two behaviors that are major time giving cues, called zeitgebers, for the body clock—sleep-wake cycles and meal timing. Because of their role in time-keeping, we recommend going to bed at about the same time most nights and eating dinner on a regular schedule. It’s also important to limit behaviors that act as dyschronogens (i.e., things that disrupt body clock timing). The four things that tend to be the most important for most people are to: (1) limit caffeine to early in the day (ideally prior to noon), (2) if you drink alcohol, do so in moderation and ideally at or near dinner time, (3) allow at least a few hours between eating dinner and bedtime, and (4) if you are using a screen (e.g., TV, computer, smartphone) after dark, consider wearing blue-blocking glasses Comment end.

A key point is that what happens at night will have a dramatic effect on how we perform the next day. Why doesn’t Qualia Night contain melatonin?

We recommend that Qualia Night be taken several hours before bedtime, and that is not an ideal time to take melatonin for most people. Like many processes in the body, both the what, in this case melatonin, and the when, it’s timing, are important. Secretion of melatonin peaks in the middle of the night. The timing of this surge in melatonin synchronizes physiological cycles of the body. Because melatonin levels increase quickly after taking it orally, you’ll usually see recommendations to take it shortly before going to bed. When taken near a person’s normal bedtime, the increase in melatonin produced by the supplement will be close to the time melatonin is going to surge anyway. If taken a few hours before bedtime, the increase in melatonin will be earlier. For many people that would shift the time they’d naturally fall asleep and wake up to be earlier. And while they were adjusting to the new timing, in a sense, the melatonin would be causing something akin to jetlag, abruptly shifting the body’s circadian rhythms. Those are not things we wanted to do. So instead of including melatonin, Qualia Night contains ingredients the brain can use to make melatonin when it needs it. How much caffeine is in a Qualia Nootropic Energy?

Each Qualia Nootropic Energy contains 90mg of caffeine from organic coffee fruits (sometimes called coffee berries or cherries). This is about the amount of caffeine found in an 8-ounce cup of coffee. We chose this amount of caffeine because caffeine’s nootropic (i.e., brain performance) benefits occur in the range of 50-200mg, while 100-600mg of caffeine are used for ergogenic (i.e., exercise/sports) purposes. When we formulated the Qualia Nootropic Energy we assumed regular Qualia Mind and Qualia Mind Focus users would want to occasionally have a Qualia Nootropic Energy. So we designed them to be able to be used together on the days when you want an extra boost. However, when it comes to daily use we think of these products as being more in the either/or category. In others words, for daily use we’d generally recommend either Qualia Nootropic Energy or Qualia Mind, but not both be used. The reason for this recommendation is that Qualia Nootropic Energy provide some of the same cognitive support as what’s found in Qualia Mind. Several of the same ingredients are found in both (e.g., , Coffeeberry®, Celastrus paniculatus, L-theanine, alpha-GPC, n-acetyl-l-tyrosine, niacinamide). Qualia Vision uses the award-winning ingredient Lutemax® 2020, which contains the three macular carotenoids—lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin. Beta carotene or mixed carotenes, because they compete for absorption, can hamper the bioavailability of the eye-healthy macular carotenoids in Qualia Vision.

Why doesn’t Qualia Vision have Vitamin A?

Vitamin A is an important vitamin for eye function because it’s needed by the photoreceptors that capture light. But because vitamin A is fat-soluble, it accumulates if taken daily, which has the potential to lead to toxicity. 

Vitamin A deficiency is extremely uncommon in the United States and other developed countries. Because of the combination of being very rarely needed, accumulating if taken every day, and having potential for toxicity, we do not think vitamin A should be routinely supplemented unless a person is deficient, so did not include it in Qualia Vision, which was formulated to be taken for extended periods of time. 

Qualia Vision was also formulated first and foremost for persons with high amounts of screen time and blue light exposure. 

Based on animal research, it does not appear to be a good idea to give vitamin A under these circumstances—limiting dietary vitamin A has been more protective in animals exposed to blue light.

Why doesn’t Qualia Vision have Beta-Carotene?

Beta carotene can’t get into the eye and can interfere with the bioavailability of the much more important eye-healthy carotenoids that can. Lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin are collectively called macular carotenoids because they get into the eye and accumulate in the macula, where they act as blue light filters and antioxidants (they are found in the Lutemax® 2020 in Qualia Vision). 

One of the formulation goals of Qualia Vision was to enhance the bioavailability of these macular carotenoids. This is one of several reasons ginger root extract is found in Qualia Vision—ginger is a bioenhancer. There would have needed to be an extremely compelling reason to include an ingredient, like beta carotene, that impairs the bioavailability of macular carotenoids. 

And, frankly, there is not. 

Beta carotene has a reputation for being eye healthy, but this is because it can be converted into vitamin A in the liver. This is why beta carotene is sometimes referred to as provitamin A and used as a way to support vitamin A levels. 

It’s because of this provitamin A role, not any direct role in eye health, that has led to beta carotene being thought of for eye health. While vitamin A is an important vitamin for eye function, it is an extremely uncommon nutrient deficiency in the United States and other developed countries. 

We do not think vitamin A should be routinely supplemented. 

And, if beta carotene is being used as a provitamin A source, we think it’s better taken at a different meal than Qualia Vision. 

How does Qualia Vision compare to other vision products?

We feel like there are no other vision products that compare to Qualia Vision. While some of the ingredients can be found in other vision products, Qualia Vision was formulated especially for blue light defense and screen time protection.

We expected we’d see different responses when it came to how quickly there was relief from eye stress complaints related to screen time behaviors. We didn’t: both groups benefited about equally and just as quickly. Because of this, our general recommendation is to take 1 capsule a day of Qualia Vision for help with eye fatigue and relief for tired, sore, or irritated eyes. However, there are a few reasons why you might want to take 2 capsules. 

If you have a lot of eye discomfort, spend a huge amount of time during the day or evening on screens, or have spent years staring at screens, you may want to replenish some eye resources more rapidly, in which case, we’d recommend taking 2 capsules a day, at least for the first month. 

Another reason to take 2 capsules would be to match the dose of Lutemax® 2020 used in the B.L.U.E. study. In this study, 24 mg of Lutemax® 2020—the amount found in 2 capsules of Qualia Vision—was supplemented for 6 months and relieved eye strain and fatigue, enhanced visual performance and processing speed, promoted photostress recovery and contrast sensitivity, and supported better sleep quality.

How soon will I notice some relief from digital eye strain after starting Qualia Vision?

In our testing, the majority of participants had noticed some relief of eye strain symptoms after five days, with greater relief by the end of the second week. For persons who have been stressing their eyes with high amounts of screen time for years, it can take quite a while for the eyes to replenish resources. 

Because of this, eye health studies tend to be very long in duration, lasting anywhere from eight weeks to twelve months. For example, the Lutemax® 2020 B.L.U.E. study was six months long. It was conducted in healthy, young adults who had at least six hours daily of screen time at close distances (≤ 3 feet). 

At the end of the six months, Lutemax® 2020 had supported visual performance, processing speed, photostress recovery, contrast sensitivity, eye strain, and fatigue, and sleep quality. So, while most people begin to notice some relief quickly, many of the eye health benefits (some of which are not subjectively felt) build over many months of supplementation.

Who should take Qualia Vision?

The simplest answer is “most of us.” Qualia Vision was specifically formulated for people who spend more than a few hours a day looking at screens on computers, tablets, smartphones, and TVs. What Is Digital Eye Strain?

Digital eye strain, sometimes called computer vision syndrome, is a collection of eye stress symptoms that occur because of looking at screens. Will Qualia Vision enhance eyesight?

Most people understand enhancing eyesight as having to do with visual acuity (i.e., 20/20 vision). Visual acuity is just one of many types of vision performance. Qualia Focus was designed to be taken near the start of your day. This is true for most things with caffeine, since caffeine later in the day or at night may interfere with sleep.

Is it okay if I have my child or teenager take Qualia Focus?

We do not recommend giving Qualia Focus to children or teenagers. One of the reasons for this recommendation is that a 2-capsule dose contains 100 mg of caffeine. The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests limiting caffeine intake to 100 mg in adolescents ages 12 to 18 years old. Many teens consume some caffeine in beverages like coffee, teas, energy drinks, and soft drinks, so the caffeine found in Qualia Focus would put them above the 100 mg suggested limit if they are consuming any other source of caffeine. This medical organization has not designated a safe threshold for caffeine in children 11 years old and younger.

What should I expect when I take Qualia Senolytic?

As we age, senescent cells accumulate, but where they accumulate, and what aspects of healthy function they may influence, can vary person-to-person: for some people it may be the skin, for other people it may be fat or muscle tissue, for others it could be the brain, joints, immune system, etc. Because of this, there is no one way that Qualia Senolytic is experienced.*

Should I be concerned about fisetin’s bioavailability?

Most polyphenols—fisetin included—are relatively poorly absorbed through the gut barrier. Because of this, our science team puts much more weight on scientific studies evaluating body & brain responses over bioavailability. And, big picture, despite evidence suggesting poor bioavailability there are a lot of studies suggesting beneficial support for the brain & body even from poorly absorbed polyphenols. The data on the bioavailability of fisetin is a main reason that the Mayo Clinic chose to use a high dose of fisetin in their senolytic studies, and why we are recommending the 1400 mg/day dose of fisetin (which for a person of average weight matches the Mayo dose). In published animal studies of fisetin, oral fisetin in this human-equivalent dose range has supported the management of senescence cells, which is the main outcome we care about (not bioavailability). We think the recommended dose included in Qualia Senolytic is sufficient taking into account the data on fisetin’s low bioavailability, but we would not be as confident that the doses we've seen in other supplements claiming a senescent cell benefit (often 100 mg and sometimes a bit more) would provide the intended support.*

Behaviors and strategies that support immune system performance would be expected to also complement Qualia Senolytic.* We recommend focusing on: (1) Consistently getting enough quality sleep—sleep is a major determinant of how well the immune system performs; (2) Regularly exercising in ways that create fitness—being sedentary and excessive exercise can both weaken immune performance (think Goldilocks principle when it comes to exercise); (3) Managing stress—higher stress is hard on the immune system; and (4) Practicing some type of fasting behavior for several days every three months or so—Valter Longo’s (interviewed on Collective Insight Podcast) fasting-mimicking diet is an example of one of these approaches; it helps rejuvenate immune cells*. And, of course, eating a healthy diet is important for immune system health.

The intermittent fasting window I follow means that the first food I eat isn’t till later in the day. When should I take Qualia Senolytic?

It’s fine to wait to take Qualia Senolytic until whatever time of day you eat your first food.

Is it okay to split the dose of Qualia Senolytic between different meals?

Yes. If you want to take part of the Qualia Senolytic with one meal (such as breakfast) and part with another meal (like lunch or dinner) or spread equally between three meals on the days you take it, that would be fine.

Can I take Qualia Senolytic while intermittent fasting?

Yes. We consider Qualia Senolytic to be compatible with intermittent fasting. It does not contain any significant amount of the caloric units of energy found within food (carbohydrates, protein, and fat) that may disrupt a fasting period.

Should I take Qualia Senolytic with food?

Our general recommendation is to take Qualia Senolytic with food. The reason for this recommendation is because (1) with food is the most common way senolytics have been used in studies, and (2) Qualia Senolytic contains concentrated food extracts, some of which may be more bioavailable if taken with food.* 

When we tested Qualia Senolytic prior to launch, some participants chose to take it with food and others took it without food. So, if taking supplements on an empty stomach is something that you tolerate well and find more convenient, feel free to take it without food.

What is Qualia Senolytic? How Does It Work?

Qualia Senolytic contains a combination of nine vegan ingredients and was formulated to be taken on two consecutive days once a month. It was created to support healthy aging in an area called “cellular senescence.”* But what is that?

Aspects of cellular structure and function gradually shift in certain predictable ways as a normal part of the aging process. Scientists refer to nine of these gradual shifts as the Hallmarks of Aging—think of a hallmark in this case as meaning a distinguishing characteristic. Cellular senescence is one of the nine characteristics; it has to do with a special type of stressed or worn out cell called a senescent cell.

Senescent cells are created and removed from tissues constantly throughout life. They are formed as a routine part of normal healthy function. Muscle tissues, as an example, create senescent cells after intense exercise as part of recovery.

Senescent cells are also formed when a cell becomes so stressed or worn out that it’s not worth putting in cellular work to maintain or repair it (replacing it would be a better use of cellular resources).

As we get older, healthy creation and removal functions tend to shift in ways that result in gradual increases in the proportion of senescent cells in some, often many different tissues—removal functions fall behind. This occurs for two main reasons.

Senescent cells should proceed through a series of molecular steps in a biological process that got its name from the Greek word for “falling off,” in the sense of ripe fruit falling from trees, leaves falling from a plant, or petals falling from flowers.

Some senescent cells can get sidetracked on the journey to “falling off” (in this case from our tissues). These cells become experts at surviving, exploiting normal cellular prosurvival functions to linger, loitering and taking up space in tissues. This would be somewhat analogous to yellowing leaves that haven’t fallen off a plant yet.

Because it’s normal to have some senescent cells start, but not complete the “falling off” journey, tissues need a back up plan. The backup plan is the immune system, which should act a bit like a gardener who prunes away the yellowing leaves on a plant. 

One of the jobs of the immune system is to find loitering senescent cells and remove them. When the immune system is adept at finding and removing these cells, the pace of removal maintains a healthy balance with creation. This is where aging enters the story.

When we are young, the immune system will typically be great at finding, and figuratively speaking, pruning away senescent cells. As we get older, the immune system tends to gradually become less proficient in lots of different ways; one of these is finding and pruning senescent cells—some senescent cells may get missed. Over time, this can result in gradual accumulation of senescent cells.

Senescent cells are often described as being “zombie cells.” This is because, not unlike the undead zombies in movies, a senescent cell can get stuck in a kind of limbo. It has one more thing in common with movie zombies: senescent cells can convince otherwise healthy cells to become senescent cells, which may add to the accumulation burden.

But why is the accumulation of senescent cells important? It comes down to a fundamental principle—the health of tissues depends on the health of the cells in those tissues. What do you think might happen if space that should be filled with healthy cells is being taken up by loitering senescent cells instead? The answer is very similar to what occurs if a plant has a growing number of yellowing leaves taking up space on its branches. 

There are a few main reasons gardeners prune leaves: (1) pruning allows resources and nutrients to be used in healthy, vibrant leaves rather than being poorly invested in less healthy ones; (2) pruning encourages new growth; and (3) pruning promotes the overall health and appearance of a plant. This is where senolytics come in; they can be thought of as a way to prune away the equivalent of yellowing leaves in our tissues.* 

The word “senolytic” is derived from the Latin words senex (=old) and lytic (=destroying). They are aptly named. Senolytics have an affinity for finding cells that are using senescent cell prosurvival mechanisms, and then convincing them to finish the journey to “falling off” instead.*

Now let’s answer the original question—What is Qualia Senolytic? It is a dietary supplement formulated to help bring the creation and removal of senescent cells back into a healthy balance. It does this by, figuratively speaking, pruning away senescent cells. Its goals are similar to those of pruning a plant: support efficient use of cellular resources, encourage growth of more youthful cells by making “room” in tissues for them, and ultimately to support tissue health and appearance—promoting whole-body rejuvenation.*

Does Qualia Senolytic support autophagy?

Yes, ingredients in Qualia Senolytic support the body’s normal process of autophagy. That said, we'd think of supporting autophagy as a secondary benefit. The main intended benefit of Qualia Senolytic is managing senescent cells, which is not the same thing as autophagy. Autophagy and cellular senescence are two distinct cellular responses that can be activated by a variety of stresses and have to do with aging (so it's easy to confuse them). Both are needed to keep us healthy but they are different processes. Autophagy (literally meaning “self-eating”) is focused on degrading and recycling components inside cells and mitochondria (mostly damaged proteins and organelles). It helps maintain cellular homeostasis so that a cell does not become senescent (think of autophagy as an anti-senescence mechanism). Cellular senescence is about the whole cell and occurs when a cell has become so stressed and worn out that cleaning up some of the damage inside it is no longer sufficient. Instead of autophagy, a senescent cell needs to go through a "falling off" process (a healthy cellular function called apoptosis). Senolytics are focused on supporting the whole cell to promote the completion of this falling off process. This is the main goal of Qualia Senolytic.*

Do I have to take Qualia Senolytic every month or can I do it once a quarter instead?

There is no best time of the day to take Qualia Senolytic, so feel free to take it with whatever meal is most convenient for you.

Why does Qualia Senolytic contain a variety of senolytic compounds?

Qualia Senolytic contains nine plant extracts, seven of which we consider to be senolytics and two others we’d categorize as being senolytic complements (or potential senolytics).* 

Senescent cells are an example of complexity science; they use networks of cellular pathways (usually abbreviated as SCAPs) to resist being “pruned” away. But they can also use non-SCAP mechanisms—senescent cells are diverse and don’t all use identical survival strategies. 

And, some senolytic compounds appear to be more active in some tissues (and less active in others). 

Because of these interacting factors, Qualia Senolytic took a complex systems approach to managing senescent cells, selecting ingredients to address varying SCAP mechanisms (such as Fisetin and Quercetin), ingredients to complement them (such as milk thistle and soybean seed extracts), and ingredients for non-SCAP mechanisms (such as Piperlongumine) to holistically support managing senescent cells in a variety of tissues.

How soon will I notice benefits from Qualia Senolytic?

Qualia Senolytic should be thought of as a product that pays healthy aging dividends over time and with repeated cycles of use. In the pilot study we did of Qualia Senolytic prior to bringing it to market, the participants were between the ages of 32 and 66 and had at least a moderate degree of difficulty in comfortably performing a variety of activities of daily living (this is something that frequently accompanies aging). 

Most of the participants reported greater ease in comfortably performing these activities and less of the occasional stiffness that can accompany aging after two dosing cycles of Qualia Senolytic (i.e., after taking a full dose of Qualia Senolytic for 2 days, taking a few weeks off, and then taking another full dose of Qualia Senolytic for 2 days).* 

While this is one use case, we created Qualia Senolytic to support healthy aging in many areas (brain, muscles, immunity, joint, skin, etc.) so benefits may show up at varying speeds and in a variety of areas of function in different people depending on where aging is taking a toll.*

Do I have to take the full dose of Qualia Senolytic spread out over two days?

No. The Neurohacker Collective science team believes the best approach to taking senolytics is to follow a “hit and run” approach (i.e., take senolytics for up to several days in a row followed by a break of at least 2 weeks), but a “hit and run” approach can be achieved in several different ways. Our general recommendation is to take the monthly dose spread out over 2 days (this is the most common approach in ongoing studies*), but this should be considered as more of a guideline than an absolute rule. The monthly dose of Qualia Senolytic can also be spread out over 3-4 days or taken all on a single day, as examples.

How should I get started with Qualia Senolytic?

While there are no special instructions for getting started, a good way to introduce anything new is to start small and increase over time. 

Rather than taking the full recommended dose of 6 capsules a day on 2 back-to-back days during the first month, it’s fine to start by taking a lower dose and spreading it out over a few more days, or to start at a lower dose and eventually build up to the recommended dose.

Another way to think about taking senolytics is as being akin to a water fast or detox protocol, which are not something done every day, but instead, would be something done for a few days periodically to support health goals.*

What should I do if I'm feeling heightened emotions and/or energy?

As you get started with Qualia you will feel more energy, motivation and drive but may also experience other feelings around your emotions.

Feeling less emotional?

Are you less emotional, as in numb and disassociated, or are you just more grounded, clear-minded and non-reactive?

If you’re simply experiencing less angst and anxiousness, that's great. 

If you really feel numb or muted, discontinue use. This might not be the right formulation for you.

Feeling more emotional?

Are you feeling more emotional in a balanced and grounded way; feeling emotions more clearly or powerfully? If so, that's great. 

If you’re feeling emotionally unbalanced in a negative or overwhelming way, discontinue use. This may not be the right formulation for you. 

Feeling irritable?

You might feel edgy if the dose is too high. Try again at a lower dose.

Feeling over-energized?

The dose may be too high for you. We suggest taking a day off then trying again with a lower dose.  

Feeling tired or fatigued?

Feeling some fatigue when first starting is sometimes experienced by a small percentage of users. The brain uses glucose-energy faster than muscles do, so when someone is really up-regulating their cognitive utilization (as you are when taking Qualia), just like when someone starts working out a lot, they can feel tired and need more rest and repair time. 

For many, this fatigue abates as their bodies adjust within a week or 2. If it does not, and you find that this current formulation isn't the right match for your chemistry, let us know and we'll be happy to issue a refund.

Get good sleep. Eat well. Move your body. If you’re fading early in your productive workday, you can try a small secondary booster dose on an empty stomach. Also, make sure you are being realistic about how much you should actually be able to accomplish in one day.

What should I do if I'm feeling spacey or trippy?

Did you drink alcohol with Qualia or mix it with other drugs?

Because of the GABAergic effects of alcohol mixed with Qualia, a small percentage of people could experience feeling a little spacey or trippy. Some users may also experience heightened effects of alcohol, such as feeling inebriated quicker, when taking Qualia. For these reasons, we don’t recommend taking Qualia within 24 hours of alcohol consumption.

We don’t recommend taking the product within 24 hours of psychoactive drugs either. If you plan on doing that, we suggest talking to a doctor about it first.

Can Qualia be used by those who have neuro-degenerative conditions?

Parkinsons, Multiple Sclerosis, and Alzheimers are all very different conditions and those with these or any other neuro-degenerative conditions are contraindicated. To date, we have not done any clinical trials pairing Qualia with neurological conditions, and as such, have no data to share regarding its potential impact.

What should I do if I get an upset stomach or nausea?

If stomach upset occurs when taking the product on an empty stomach, take with a meal instead.

What should I do if I experience increased heart rate or flushing

Increased Heart Rate

If you are particularly sensitive to having heart rate increase because you have a heart condition or tachycardia, Qualia might be contraindicated. Please refer to our medical disclaimer and consult with your doctor.

If it’s only mildly elevated, stop use for a day or two, and try again at a lower dose, if you like. 

Flushing

Qualia can increase circulatory function. A very small number of people might experience heat or redness in the skin or a sense of flushing. If it’s uncomfortable, discontinue use for a day or two and start again at a lower dose. For most people who experience this it will stop within a couple days.

Does Qualia cause lucid dreaming?

For some, Qualia can help them remember their dreams more vividly.

Vitamin B6 in phosphorylated form, (Vitamin B6 as Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate [P-5-P]), has been commonly reported to increase the lucidity of dreams. Many of the other brain nutrients and nootropic compounds found in our formulations also have some data reporting their impact on dreams.

Is it OK to drink alcohol with Qualia?

Minimal alcohol consumption, such as a glass of red wine in the evening, is generally well tolerated. Please note, however, that taking with heavy alcohol consumption is not recommended. And also note that exceptions do exist where any alcohol consumption can contribute to noticeable decrease in intended effect and benefit. This is a topic of empowered responsibility for you to explore.


What should I do if I experience body soreness, tightness, or aches?

A small percentage of people have reported muscle tightness or soreness, particularly in the neck, shoulders or jaw. Some of those people may also report some sense of pressure in the head. This is most likely the result of choline sensitivity. People have various tolerances for choline and various choline sensitivities. There are a number of ingredients in Qualia that are designed to elevate acetylcholine levels. While this has many benefits, if it is more than someone's sensitivity is currently capable of processing, it can result in muscle tightness or soreness.

If it is intense or concerning, we recommend immediately discontinuing use and contacting us for a refund.

If it is mild and you want to explore further, you can try getting off the product for a few days to normalize and starting again at a lower dose and see if it is gone. Some people who have reported soreness reported that it went away even at a full dose after about a week because their bodies adjusted. These symptoms can also dissipate or disappear entirely after they started exercising more and actually utilizing more of the chemistry. These are all things you are welcome to explore.

Why don't I feel any effects from Qualia?

The number one reason people may not feel the effects is lack of or poor sleep. Qualia works along the same pathways in the brain that move your memories from short to long term storage when you are in deep sleep.

If those pathways are blocked or unavailable due to lack of or poor sleep, you will not feel Qualia working.

If that is the case, the best advice is to stop taking Qualia and work on your sleep. Take 3-5 days and get as much sleep as you can. Rest up and then try Qualia again and see if you notice the difference.

Things that can make it most effective:

  • Follow the instructions.
  • Get good sleep. If you’re not sleeping enough or well, the product will not work.

  • Get moving. Your body fluids need to circulate. If you’re not getting exercise and movement, it’s not going to work as well.

Things that can make it less effective:

  • Not following the instructions

  • Caffeine desensitization

Can Qualia increase anxiety?

Though not common, a small percentage of people who have taken Qualia have noticed some increased level of anxiety when initially taken. Typically these are people who also notice an increased level of anxiety from caffeine related sources. If you have a strong anxiety experience we suggest discontinuing Qualia use and contacting us for a refund, as this may not be the right formulation from you.

 If it is a milder experience on par with what you would experience with a cup of coffee and its something you would want to explore further, you can look at lowering or adjusting the dose accordingly. You may also choose to use Qualia in conjunction with more exercise, meditation and other activities that help address anxiety. Some people who are experienced neurohackers and want to dial in their own chemistry have reported choosing to take additional nutritional supplements (i.e. phosphorus, 5htp, magnesium 3 & 8, GABA, or other calming herbs along with Qualia, or, before bed) which help attenuate those kinds of experiences.

Can I take Qualia if I'm using CBD Oil?

While Qualia is generally well tolerated by those using CBD oil, consult with your physician to make sure the specific medical condition for which you are taking CBD oil does not contradict with any ingredients in Qualia.

Can Qualia cause headaches?

A very small percentage of people have reported some kind of headache or head pressure after beginning Qualia. If the headache feels severe or bothersome, discontinue use and contact us for a refund. If it simply feels like some pressure and you want to explore it, lower the dose and see how it feels.

Some people can get pressure in the head or correspondingly in the neck or jaw from elevating their levels of acetylcholine. There are a number of ingredients in Qualia that are designed to elevate acetylcholine. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. If that's the case, lowering the dose is often times enough to abate this.

Also, many people who did feel some head pressure at first continued with their experimentation at the same dose and reported that their headaches went away within a week as their bodies adjusted.

Can I take Qualia while also using recreational drugs?

Since recreational drugs are not legal in the United States, we are not in a position to advise regarding their interactions with Qualia. That said, many people in the biohacking and neurohacking forums have explored many different chemical combinations of various nootropics with cannabis, entheogens, etc. Feel free to go to forums that discuss this topic and learn from other people's experiences, and you can then develop a more informed opinion.

While we obviously can't say anything about use of scheduled narcotics, for safety sake we would encourage at least a 24 hour pause before and after other strong psychoactive chemistry and Qualia.

Will Qualia show up on a drug test?

There are no ingredients that should conflict with any standard corporate drug test, nor is there any ingredients that is a controlled narcotic. 

Other regulatory bodies such as sports organizations and collegiate associations have their own rules and lists of banned or prohibited substances.  We strongly encourage you to research which substances are banned by any regulatory body that you participate under and check those against the ingredients in Qualia listed on our Formulation page before taking Qualia. 

There are a few ingredients in Qualia that could have a foreseeable conflict.  These ingredients are caffeine and phenethylamine.   Some regulatory bodies also ban any substance that is chemically related to the class, even if it is not listed as an example on their documentation, so please consult with that organization if you have any questions.

Is Qualia safe? Who is it safe for?

We’ve taken care to avoid risky ingredients and to select dosages that are unlikely to have negative effects for most people. That said, this isn’t a placebo. The supplements in Qualia have real effects and there is a lot in here. Read the instructions and follow them. If something feels wrong, stop using it.

Why is cycling important?

Cycling maximizes the benefits while also preventing desensitization. As such, our products are designed for regular use, with cycling: 5 days on and 2 days off each week. It does not matter if the 2 "off-cycle" days are consecutive or apart, so long as they happen each week.

The only ingredient that produces a come-down effect when not taken is caffeine. Our product contains 90mg of caffeine – about the amount in a cup of black tea, or about a third as much as in a tall Starbucks coffee. Many people will still use some other caffeine source (coffee, etc) on the off-cycle days to prevent this. For maximum benefits, we recommend that people cycle off all caffeine (including this product) for one week every three months or so.

Will a tolerance form over time and/or cause dependency?

Key to the product’s effectiveness is cycling off 2 days per week. This is all that’s required to prevent tolerance from forming.

You may, however, notice over time that the product doesn’t seem to provide the same degree of uplift. Qualia was designed to create long-term lasting benefits and increase your overall baseline, so a less noticeable uplift over time is often indicative of a higher underlying baseline of mood and cognition being your new normal.

Does Qualia help address anxiety or depression?

Unfortunately, the chemistry of depression and anxiety can be very nuanced. As such, we do not recommend anyone experiencing any type of psychiatric issues take Qualia unsupervised. Is Qualia product safe to take with a/o as a replacement for Adderall?

We do not recommend taking Qualia with any other psychoactive medication, such as Adderall.

You should consult your physician when discontinuing use of any psychoactive medication prior to using any product you are intending to replace the use of a psychoactive medication.

Many people have reported beneficial changes in mood and cognitive performance transitioning from some medications to Qualia, however, as there are many variables in each individual mental condition and treatment plan, consult your physician prior to any transitioning from any regimen onto any other.

Is Qualia dose-dependent based on body weight?

Typically the standard recommended dose is applicable across the board except for a small percentage of people. Body weight can be one factor that requires dosage adjustment, as can highly sensitive or de-sensitized systems. With this in mind, we recommend starting with the standard dose, and then, if needed, making any adjustments from there.

To that end, quality sleep is actually more important than body weight when it comes to feeling the optimal effects. Qualia works along the same pathways in the brain that move your memories from short to long term storage when you are in deep sleep. If those pathways are blocked or unavailable due to lack of and/or poor sleep, you will not feel it working. We recommend that prior to taking Qualia (as well as while on it), be sure to work on your sleep and get as much rest as you, ensuring proper optimization and resulting effects, no matter what your body weight. 

The length of time to notice the effects can vary, but in general, you'll be able to feel the subjective, full effects as it relates to mental focus, energy and clarity within as little as 20 minutes. If you do not, and if your sleep is on par with the info outlined above, then we'd recommend increasing your dosage. 

Everyone's chemistry is unique, and if the standard dosage does not match for your needs, we encourage experimenting and adjusting to find your optimal intake.

Lifestyle
Qualia is intended to support cognitive function and productive flow states as a part of a lifestyle that promotes well being and optimal performance. Good nutrition, exercise, sleep, mental engagement, emotional management, and an empowered outlook are all essential for a healthy body and brain.

Cycling
Qualia was designed for regular use, with cycling: 5 days on and 2 days off each week. This maximizes the benefits while preventing desensitization. It does not matter if the 2 "off-cycle" days are consecutive or apart, so long as they happen each week. For maximum benefits, we recommend that people cycle off all caffeine (including this product) for one week every three months or so. Qualia can also be used fewer days per week, or on an as needed basis for immediate effects, but the longer term effects this product is designed to support require regular use over an extended period of time.

Sleep
Qualia is most effective in a rested brain and is not intended to enhance function during sleep deficit. Good sleep is crucial for optimal cognitive function. When you engage your brain more intensely, it can increase your need for sleep, as is the case with intense exercise. Please note many people describe their sleep cycle going through an adjustment process the first few days on Qualia. If you experience any lingering insomnia or sleep issue, you may want try taking Qualia earlier in the day or lowering the dosage, prior to ceasing use.

The instructions matter! This is a powerful nootropic stack, taking it as intended is important.

What should I do if I experience sleep disturbance?

Some people experience a re-regulation of sleep patterns after the first week on Qualia. Some users may find they fall asleep later, or sleep less, or have more vivid dreams. If those experiences occur, they generally normalize within a week of regular use.

Because the product contains a small amount of xanthines (caffeine, theophylline, theobromine), we recommend taking Qualia at least 8 hours before bed, depending on how sensitive you are to xanthines and how quickly you metabolize them. 

What should I do if I can't swallow pills?

Are there alternative ways to take Qualia capsules or tablets and still get a beneficial effect?

Yes!

You can open the Qualia capsules and take with water or even place under the tongue for quicker absorption. If stomach upset occurs, take them with food (smoothie, juice, soup, yogurt, etc).
