How much caffeine is in a Qualia Nootropic Energy?

Each Qualia Nootropic Energy contains 90mg of caffeine from organic coffee fruits (sometimes called coffee berries or cherries). This is about the amount of caffeine found in an 8-ounce cup of coffee. We chose this amount of caffeine because caffeine’s nootropic (i.e., brain performance) benefits occur in the range of 50-200mg, while 100-600mg of caffeine are used for ergogenic (i.e., exercise/sports) purposes. So the amount of caffeine in a shot of Qualia Energy is in the lower part of the range most commonly used for mental and physical energy purposes.

Can I take Qualia Nootropic Energy in addition to either Qualia Mind or Qualia Focus? 

When we formulated the Qualia Nootropic Energy we assumed regular Qualia Mind and Qualia Mind Focus users would want to occasionally have a Qualia Nootropic Energy. So we designed them to be able to be used together on the days when you want an extra boost. However, when it comes to daily use we think of these products as being more in the either/or category. In others words, for daily use we’d generally recommend either Qualia Nootropic Energy or Qualia Mind, but not both be used. The reason for this recommendation is that Qualia Nootropic Energy provide some of the same cognitive support as what’s found in Qualia Mind. Several of the same ingredients are found in both (e.g., , Coffeeberry®, Celastrus paniculatus, L-theanine, alpha-GPC, n-acetyl-l-tyrosine, niacinamide). While some people may want the extra mental energy they get from combining Qualia Nootropic Energy with Qualia Mind and do fine taking both, others may find taking both on the same days to be too stimulating.

What should I do if I notice a side-effect and think it might be because of this product?

One of the interesting things found in studies is that placebos can have positive effects … and unwanted effects. The common side-effects seen from placebos match what are found in studies of dietary supplements and what we saw in our tolerability testing. These are minor complaints like headache, digestive disturbances, nausea, irritability, and fatigue. Most people don’t notice any of these unwanted responses. In the smaller subset of people who do, as a general rule of thumb, these types of complaints fade over time for most of them. They can also sometimes go away if you drink more water when you take the product, take it with a bigger meal, or decrease the dose you are taking. If one or more of these common symptoms seems particularly strong, or if you notice something other than one of the common side effects mentioned, please stop taking the product and let us know.

Why did you use coconut sugar in Qualia Nootropic Energy?

Four grams of organic coconut sugar are used to provide the mild sweet taste to improve the overall flavor profile of Qualia Nootropic Energy. We opted to use a sweetener that contains calories (as opposed to a non-caloric sweetener) because scientific research indicates low-to-moderate doses of easily digested carbohydrates can boost performance, and synergize with caffeine.

Can I take Qualia Nootropic Energy while intermittent fasting?

A Qualia Nootropic Energy contains 16 calories from 4 grams of organic coconut sugar. It also contains several grams of ingredients and about 90mg of caffeine. This means it would be somewhat similar to having a cup of coffee with some added sweetener, which some individuals are comfortable drinking while intermittent fasting, and others are not. Ultimately, there’s no right answer to this question, and will depend on what type of intermittent fasting you are practicing and the reasons you are practicing it.

Qualia Nootropic Energy is a 2-ounce liquid shot designed to work fast and provide long-lasting clean energy. 

Feel free to take less than the full bottle if a smaller amount feels like it would be right for you. If you do decide to drink less than the full bottle, make sure you refrigerate the bottle after it is opened and use the rest within the next 3 days. 

In general, the best time to take Qualia Nootropic Energy is early in the day. This is true for most things with caffeine, since caffeine later in the day or at night may interfere with sleep.

Cycling Your Use:

Qualia Nootropic Energy is designed to be taken 5 days on and 2 days off each week.  This maximizes the benefits while preventing desensitization. It does not matter if the “off-cycle” days are consecutive or apart, so long as they happen each week.
